Dancers, chancers and everything in between. Join dancer Edwina Guckian for this very special Drogheda cake dance — close to the site where Halls Bakery once stood, in the shadow of St Laurence’s Gate.
A Cake Dance is an old social tradition where dancers quite literally dance to win *the cake!
Names will be drawn from a hat as each dancer steps up to perform for the crowd. When the last dancer performs, the audience votes for their two favourite dancers. The votes are then counted, and winners are announced; they are awarded the cake and the honour of sharing it with all.
All welcome, no booking required – just show up on the day and put your name in the hat to be one of the dancers. All types of dance welcome: set-dancing, step-dancing, breakdancing, two-stepping, fox-trotting and jiving!

Edwina Guckian
Edwina Guckian is a dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, publisher, farmer and community activist, from county Leitrim; a terrain and community that strongly informed her unique style of Sean Nós dance from an early age.
Founder and Artistic Director of Áirc Damhsa Culture Club and the Leitrim Dance Project – recent work has included the 2024 publication of her first children’s book, Sparks from the Flagstones: Irish Folk Traditions & Calendar Customs and in 2025 her ‘The Devil’s in the Dance Hall’ Markievicz award project. In May 2025 Edwina will launch Sclimpíní – a commission by Luail Dance Company and created in collaboration with Mikel Mufi featuring Ultan Ó Brien, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Stephanie Keane, Laoise Kelly and Becky Ní Éallaithe.
Recent projects include the critically acclaimed The Devil’s in the Dancehall, an immersive dance theatre experience, inspired by the life and legacy of Jimmy Gralton, Ireland’s dancehall era, and the 1935 Public Dance Halls Act. She is currently leading an ambitious community initiative to rebuild Jimmy Gralton’s Dance Hall on the site of the original hall.
Edwina is a board member of the Irish Traditional Music Archive and Dance Deputy for the West of Ireland at Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company.
