Sunday’s Gate Quartet

The Sunday’s Quartet began singing together in the late 1980s.

The five man line-up of brothers Kevin and Patrick Branigan, Michael Rafferty, Fiach McHugh and Declan Hoey, all went to school in the Sunday’s Gate area of Drogheda town.

Influenced by the acappella sound of the Black Gospel Quartets of the Southern US states, they’ve experimented with material from song traditions across the world – from African choirs, to England’s The Watersons and local Drogheda trio The Voice Squad.

As their sound developed, they placed greater emphasis on Irish traditional singing, exploring the rich Ulster song tradition where they were further influenced by the singing of Len Graham, Seán Corcoran and the Usher Family.

They have performed widely for over 30 years.
