Sorcha Glackin’s sensitively rendered film portrait of legendary Irish song collector Tom Munnelly for TG4 – Tom Munnelly: Fear na n-Amhrán, will screen as part of the Séan Corcoran Series at Droichead.
During his lifetime, Tom had the foresight to collect a vast store of songs from the oral and aural tradition, many of which are sung today by artists such as Lankum, John Francis Flynn, Ye Vagabonds and the late Sinéad O’Connor.
An iconic figure in the world of traditional music, of whom Christy Moore said “without Tom Munnelly, 20,000 songs would have disappeared into the ground”.
An ‘in conversation’ on the making of the film with Director Sorcha Glackin and Irish Times journalist Sorcha Pollak will follow the screening.
Venue: Droichead Arts Centre Stockwell Street, Drogheda Date: Saturday, September 7 Time: 12.45pm – 2.45pm Tickets: €7 (reduced €5)
