Tunes and chat with two of Louth’s finest exponents of the tradition – fiddlers Róisín Ward Morrow and Noreen McManus.

Róisín Ward Morrow is a fiddle player and folk singer from Co. Louth, Ireland. 

Touring and collaborations have included West-End tenor Peter Corry, renowned composer and pianist Carl Hession and Drogheda guitarist Breifne Holohan. 

As one of just seven Irish women featured in Tunes from the Women – a  compilation of contemporary works by over 100 female composers from Britain and Ireland – Róisín has cemented her place in the modern folk landscape. 

Her recordings include By the Light of the Moon, an albumn of slow airs whcih released to a sold-out audience at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2019 and her 2024 release of original compositions, Whereon She Stands, which garnered widespread critical acclaim.

Noreen McManus learned the fiddle under the tutelage of the legendary fiddler Martin Mulvihill, of New York USA.

Touring and performing extensively across Africa, Saudi Arabia, Europe, USA, Scandinavia and Ireland, Noreen is also a much sought after and celebrated fiddle teacher of grúpaí ceoil, céilí bands and indivial students. Additionally, she has held the position of Fiddle Tutor at Dundalk Institute of Technology, Co. Louth.

Founder of ‘Cúchulainn Celtic Strings’ which laid the groundwork for the formation of the Cú Chulainn CCÉ mid Louth branch of Comhaltas, most recently Noreen has co-founded the ‘Oriel Traditional Orchestra’ which is a cross-border, intergenerational ensemble based in the North East performing repertoire inspired by and from the Oriel region.
