The Megaphone Project, curated by traditional singer Macdara Yeates, will pitch up on St Laurence Street, with a pop-up megaphone and soap box for a selection of songs sung by guest singers, under the watchful eye of the gate.

Time: 12 noon
Date: Sun Sept 7
Venue: St Laurence’s Gate,
Drogheda

Free event. All warmly welcome!

The Megaphone Project is curated by traditional singer Macdara Yeates and takes inspiration from Johnny ‘The Singer Man’ Martin, the charismatic street singer who travelled the fairs of Ireland in the 1950s using a large megaphone as an aid to performance.

Using a pop-up megaphone and soap box, the project aims to reintroduce traditional singing to the modern streetscape, by staging spontaneous, short-form performances at various outdoor markets and social centres.
